Paul 'Macca' McDermott 500 games
Date of Event Glen Iris Cricket Club: Thu Nov 21, 2019 9:00AM

The Glen Iris Cricket Club is proud to advise that this weekend’s LOC2 game v Richmond Union, marks the 500th game for Paul McDermott, becoming only the 3rd Glen Iris player to reach the 500 game milestone.

Macca joined the Glen Iris Cricket Club as a junior and made his senior debut in the 1976/77 season and in the 499 games since, has made 2389 runs (currently 71st on the list of all time run scorers) with 4 x 50s and a highest score of 82*.

However, it was with the ball that Macca excelled, so far taking 484 wickets to put him 7th on the list of all time wicket takers for the Glen Iris Cricket Club. His bowling career saw him take 20 x 5wi, 2 x 7wi, 1 x 10wm and best bowling of 7/39.

With someone boasting a career of over 40 years with one club, the list of awards are almost too numerous to list, but it would be remiss of the club not to do so.

7 x Premiership Player – 1978/79 (5th XI), 1983/84 (3rd XI), 1994/95 (4th XI), 2004/05 (6th XI), 2008/09 (6th XI), 2010/11 (4th XI) and 2015/16 (4th XI) – plus 3 junior premierships

A Life Member of the Glen Iris Cricket Club, Macca has also served the club both on and off the field admirably. He was Club Treasurer in the 1993/94 season and for the past three years, inclusive of this season, has served on the Glen Iris Cricket Club Committee.

Moreover, Macca has captained our top LOC side for the past consecutive 13 seasons from 2006/07 through to this season, being his 14th year as skipper.

If you can get down to the Glen Iris Cricket Club this Thursday evening for training, to the game on Saturday at Swinbourne (Rose St Hawthorn East from 12 30pm), Saturday night back at Eric Raven or Sunday at Eric Raven watching the 1st team, the Club would encourage all past and present players, families and supporters to come and congratulate Macca not only on a stellar career, but on an almost unrivalled commitment to the Glen Iris Cricket Club for almost 50 years. It is nothing short of what Macca deserves for the sacrifices he has made for the cricket club and for hundreds of players that have played with Macca over the years.

It is Macca’s level of sustained commitment to our club, that should be held as an example to all of us heading out each weekend for the Glen Iris Cricket Club.

Congratulations Paul on your 500th game and thank you for your service over the years.
